La connaissance des parasites et des facteurs influents leur variation est indispensable pour lutter efficacement contre ce fléau. Ainsi une étude a étémenée s r 2578 ruminants (1174 bovins, 987ovins 417 caprins) pour la mise en évidence d’arthropodes (acariens et insectes) parasites, sur le savoir endogène et les pratiques traditionnelles de lutte contre ces arthropodes dans quatredépartements du Nord-Bénin (Borgou, l’Alibori, l’Atacora, Donga) d’Août 2007 à Février 2009. Les résultats
obtenus montrent que les animaux sont parasités tout au long de la période d'étude avec un taux global d'infestation de 37,62%. Les observations en microscopie ont permis de donner plus de précisions sur les structures morphologiques de certains parasites. Ainsi cinq genres d’acariens et trois espèces d’insectes ont été récoltés sur diverses régions anatomiques des animaux. Des variations de taux d’infestations en fonction de la saison, l’espèce et l’âge des animaux ont été observées. Une corrélation négative et hautement significative (p< 0,001) a été mise en évidence entre la charge parasitaire et le taux d’hématocrite. Un état de lieu sur la connaissance paysanne des différents genres d’ectoparasites et les recettes endogènes de lutte a permis d’identifier trois groupes de recettes paysannes de lutte. Cette étude laisse envisager des mesures de luttes contre les a rthropodes parasites.
