Elle a fait l’objet d’une forte médiatisation. La présente étude vise une meilleure organisation de la stratégie de communication dans la prévention et la riposte contre l’IAHP, ainsi que dans la préparation à une éventuelle pandémie humaine de la grippe aviaire. Elle a été menée d’août à novembre 2007 au Bénin et de décembre 2007 à mars 2008 Sénégal.L’approche méthodologique s’articule autour d’une étude documentaire et d’une enquête sur le terrain auprès de divers acteurs de la filière (aviculteurs, commerçants de volailles, consommateurs) et ceux impliqués dans la sensibilisation (comités de lutte, médias). Dans les deux pays, on note l’existence de comités interministériels de lutte contre l’IAHP. Ces derniers sont appuyés dans leur mission par des organismes des Nations Unies (UNICEF, FAO, OCHA) à travers des soutiens surtout techniques et financiers. Ces comités présentent certaines insuffisances notamment l’absence en leur sein des professionnelles de la filière avicole. Dans les deux pays, les activités de communication et de sensibilisation sont dirigées par UNICEF. Les deux pays, dans le cadre de la sensibilisation, se sont dotés de plans de communication. Ceci a conduit à la réalisation de supports de sensibilisation (affiches, spots, dépliants, guides, etc..) l’organisation de séances de sensibilisation (fora, formation). La télévision, la radio, la presse écrite et les fora constituent les principaux canaux d’information. Le début de la crise, a été marqué par une importante désinformation qui a été progressivement maîtrisée. Ceci a engendré une grande psychose avec de graves préjudices pour la filière avicole. Le niveau de bonne connaissance de l’IAHP dans les deux pays demeure faible (variant de 24% à 38% en fonction des différents acteurs et selon les deux pays). Les activités de sensibilisations ont été jugéesinsuffisantes dans les deux pays (44% à 65% des acteurs).Néanmoins les comités de lutte estiment à plus de 50% les chances dont disposent ces pays pour un rapportage effectif des cas suspects. Cependant ils estiment que beaucoup reste à faire dans le domaine de la sensibilisation et de la communication.
