Elle peut entraîner de graves conséquences sur la santé humaine et sur l’élevage. Cette étude s'inscrit dans le cadre de la phase pilote du projet « Zoonosis and Emerging Livestock Systems » (ZELS) qui est un programme de recherche intitulé "Mise en place d’une stratégie multisectorielle de lutte contre la brucellose dans les principales zones péri-urbaines de production laitière d'Afrique de l'Ouest et du Centre".
La présente étude avait pour objectif général d’analyser les paramètres socio-épidémiologiques de la brucellose dans les élevages laitiers à Koulikoro, Sikasso et Ségou. Du 1er novembre 2019 au 31 mai 2021, l’étude transversale a été réalisée dans les localités suivantes : Sikasso, Koutiala, Touba, Klela, Zegoua, Farakala, Deh, Badoumbera, Baraoueli, Konobougou, Sanando et de Cinsana.
A l’issue de l’investigation du terrain, 144 éleveurs ont été interrogés sur la brucellose animale et leur niveau de connaissances a été évalué. Il ressort de l’enquête que, seuls 10,4% des éleveurs enquêtés ont déjà entendu parler de la brucellose. Le port de gant est négligé par 77,8% des administrés ainsi que le port de masque (91,5%) lorsqu’ils assistent une vache au vêlage. D’après les éleveurs enquêtés, la plupart (64,4%) n’ont jamais éliminé les placentas selon les bonnes pratiques d’hygiène. Concernant la détermination de la prévalence, 773 échantillons de sang et 144 laits de mélange ont été collectés. Le dépistage des anticorps anti-Brucella a été réalisé par la technique d’agglutination (Rose Bengale) pour les sérums et à l’ELISA indirecte pour le lait de mélange. Sur les 773 sérums issus des prélèvements sanguins, 8 ont été testés positifs au Rose Bengale soit une séroprévalence globale de 1,03% au niveau individuel et 5,56% au niveau troupeau. Également, 33 échantillons étaient positifs sur 144 prélèvements de lait de mélange soit une prévalence globale de 22,92%.
